A Study on the Growth of the Fruit Tree and Fruit Quality as Affected by Ethephon Treatment

Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate the effects on growth of the fruit tree and fruit quality with Ethephon treatment at different periods during the growing season.
The results obtained are summerized as follows.
In pre-bloom and post-bloom applications of Ethephon, the rate of fruit set was increased in control, while it decreased 10days after full-bloom period and full-bloom period of all varieties.
The rate of fruit drop was increased in full-bloom and 10days after full-bloom periods, while it decreased in control of all varieties.
Ethephon stimulated amount of shoot elongation at blooming periods, but suppressed Terminal growth of the shoot at fruit developmental period.
Fruit size was increased at full-bloom and 10days after full-bloom period by Ethephon treatment.
Fruit hardness was decreased in Daegubo, (Prunus persica SIEB.) Shinseki (Pyrus serotina R.) varieties 10days after full-bloom period and showed significant difference in it among treatments.
Sugar content of the fruits was increased in Daegubo, Jonathan and Rolls varieties at 10days after full-bloom period and showed significant difference among treatments.
Surface color of the fruits showed no significant difference among treatments.
In pre-harvest application of Ethephon, as increased in Ethephon concentrations, the rate of fruit drop increased significantly in apple, and fruit hardness and sugar content of the fruit showed to significant difference among treatments.
In degree of apple, skin color, it increased significantly and showed at loo level significant among treatments.
From above results, the author thought that the application of Ethephon during the blooming and fruit maturing period influences on varying extent of growth of the fruit tree and fruit quality.
